This spot is part of a campaign promoting Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a Ubisoft Entertainment video game which teams the iconic Mario with the irreverent Rabbids to save the Mushroom Kingdom.
The unlikely pairing with rabbits inspired a creative notion to depict other battle scenarios in which a combatant relies on furry friends to achieve a mission. In “Cover Me,” a marine is about to jump into action, asking an unseen compatriot to cover him as he catapults into the fray. The camera then reveals the fellow solider to be an armed bunny who then wanders away. A supered message appears: "Not everyone can team with a bunny," followed by sequences from Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.
Olivier Abbou directed this and the two other spots in the campaign via BBDO Paris. This marks Abbou’s first foray into the ad arena. His credits include the Madame Hollywood feature and TV series, as well as the feature Territories and the telefilm Yes We Can).
