Amber Grace Johnson directed this commercial titled “I’m In Charge,” part of Hyundai’s new worldwide campaign rolled out by German agency Jung von Matt/NECKAR. The centerpiece spot was co-produced by Berlin-based AKKURAT Studios, and L.A. and London-based Object & Animal. Object & Animal reps Johnson in the U.S. and U.K. AKKURAT Studios recently took on exclusive representation in Germany for Johnson.
“I’m In Charge” is part of the pre-launch initiative for Hyundai’s new IONIQ brand and fleet of fully electric vehicles, which will debut in 2021. The film showcases vehicular attributes while capturing a symbolic and poetic tone toward a more sustainable future.
Johnson fuses a futuristic world with a natural one via surrealism in this spot. At the core of the story is a narrative about humanity, culture and progression, and the brand’s intent to implore society to take responsibility as well as for consumers to take charge in making the world a better place.
The six-day production was shot in Kiev, with remote drone footage captured in Kenya, navigating and adhering to all COVID-19 government and filming protocol restrictions. Talent and crewmembers were administered multiple COVID tests, with all producing negative results during the entire production.
