Blinkink has released its first animated music video of the lockdown. Fresh from the release of comeback single “Top Winners” featuring Not3s, Tinie Tempah has rolled out “Moncler,” featuring the North London rapper Tion Wayne.
Directed by Robert Strange, the eye-catching, colorful video fuses fluid 2D animation with live-action shots. The visual focuses on interconnectivity, a prescient topic in this time of self-isolation. Moving between scenes with an animated Tinie FaceTiming a live-action Tion, the video culminates in the two rappers reuniting in a virtual world, signifying that we can still socialize with each other during this time–we just have to be creative.
With the current quarantine/social isolation situation, you’d expect the process to be made trickier, but Rob Strange observed, “I found that if anything remote working was easier to manage and allowed me as a director to develop a good working relationship with everyone on my team rather than just the person sitting next to me at the studio. I had a closer working relationship with Tinie than I’ve had with most other artists, which was probably part-lockdown, part-personality. He sent me so many good ideas and most made it into the video; number one being the inclusion of his pooch Pablo.”
