To promote McDonald’s new “Create Your Taste” service in New Zealand, a 45-second spot brings to life the comedic tale of “ordinary guy” John Smith who’s spent his life striving to be great but to no avail.
However, Smith has now finally stood out from the crowd by creating his own burger named “The Smittie” at McDonald’s thanks to the restaurant chain’s initiative whereby New Zealand locals can become part of history by concocting their own burgers. With 31 ingredients to choose from, the burger possibilities are seemingly endless.
Like Smith, all New Zealanders are able to make burger history online at makeburgerhistory.co.nz. They can design and name their own unique burger and then using a QR code go to the counter and order their own little piece of burger history. Some clever creators may even have their burgers become the new “face” of future “Create Your Taste” ads.
Adam Stevens of production house Robber’s Dog directed this :45 for DDB New Zealand.
