The Moon stars in this film directed by Michael Gracey (whose credits include the feature The Greatest Showman) for smartphone giant OnePlus out of agency Mother Shanghai.
The piece introduces a partnership between OnePlus and Hasselblad, which has a storied history of photographic excellence. That camera know-how is being applied to the new flagship phone from OnePlus. Hasselblad of course is popular with photography enthusiasts, sporting such accomplishments as yielding the first camera on the Moon during NASA’s historic landing.
Fittingly in this OnePlus film, the Moon playfully sweeps through varied scenes, making them magical and whimsical through perfect illumination. The completely revamped smartphone camera marries the beauty of Hasselblad photography with the convenience and accessibility of a handheld phone–casting its own moonlight on subjects.
Gracey worked with production company FINCH and animation/VFX studio Unlisted on the film. The director related, “We were limited by the circumstances at the time (lockdown, remote shooting, etc.), so it took a little bit of practical effects and a lot of imagination, but it was a brilliant collaboration that I feel is a direct reflection of the OnePlus x Hasselblad partnership.”
The “Lunarland” campaign film is running in China and international markets.
