Director Ben Chappell teamed with longtime collaborator Aaron Brown to helm this surreal music video for Arctic Monkeys’ first single “Four Out of Five,” from their recently debuted album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. Clip was produced by production company FRIEND.
The video follows lead singer Alex Turner as he strolls the corridors of a palatial home, photographs a black stallion and appears mysteriously in an orange underground tunnel. The 1970s cinema-inspired visual approach fuses vintage opulence with eye-catching cinematography, creating an unexpected, yet tantalizing, forward motion to the piece. A twisted reality is evident throughout the video, alternating Turner between two versions of himself.
The video was shot over two days in Northern England at Castle Howard. In addition to the music video, Chappell has been working closely with the band on the media campaign for the new record, contributing photography for the album art as well as teaser videos leading up to the album release.
This video adds to Chappell’s growing slate of video projects for top artists including Miley Cyrus, Rick Ross, Nas, Miranda Lambert, and The Beach Boys. Chappell is represented for commercials and branded content by Venice, Calif.-based production company Durable Goods.
