This “#ToadOff” spot for Vimto Soft Drinks features the “Vimtoad” character, originally created back in 2014 by Bristol, UK-based Aardman Animations–only this time our hero is pitted against another toad in an epic fruit fight.
Directed by Aardman’s Will Studd, this CG :30 shows the toads going at it in an action movie-style battle featuring a frantic exchange of two mixes of fruit representing the flavors in original Vimto and Vimto Remix. Set to the recently released grime soundtrack “Do you really want to do this” by Box Bottom (featuring Dubble A Stars and Nat Jay), the action commercial concludes with both toads taking a direct hit of fruit in their faces. Thus each toad tastes the other’s flavor.
“I wanted to create a gritty, tangible feel to the action,” said Studd. “Hand held cameras, chase shots, camera shake are just a few of the techniques used to try and get a sense of being in the action. For pacing, I used a lot of time ramping, going from normal speed to slow motion. I wanted to break up the scenes and give the audience some breathing space but also included slow-motion to give people a chance to take in detail and action, especially the animated liquids, and fruit.”
This “#Toadoff” spot was conceived by a creative team at Wilmslow, UK-based agency Driven.
