Twentieth Century Fox and 3AM partnered with Audi on this short tied into Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated feature Alien: Covenant. Directed by Matthew Thorne via agency/production house 3AM, the ominous branded film stars the Audi lunar Quattro, an actual Moonrover. The Rover patrols Covenant’s Terraforming Bay where it detects an unidentified life form and goes to investigate what lurks in the dark.
The short celebrates the Rover making its sci-fi feature debut in Alien: Covenant, representing unchartered territory for the brand in the genre and for the first-time, casting a spotlight on an Audi space exploration vehicle vs. an earth dwelling car. The Rover was developed by Audi in cooperation with German start-up Part Time-Scientists, and will soon embark on an actual mission to space. Covenant’s original in-world short was shot during the film’s principal photography in Australia on one of the film’s biggest sets.
Alien: Covenant x Audi lunar Quattro is the third in-world branded short created by Scott and 3AM for Fox. The first, “Last Supper,” was the official Covenant prologue film depicting the entire crew—all 15 cast members—gathering for a final meal before entering cryosleep. It amassed over 14 million views in its first five days and trended at No. 1 on both YouTube and Reddit Movies. Next up was “Meet Walter” featuring Michael Fassbender, which garnered rave reviews for its intriguing and chilling in-world backstory of Covenant’s A.I., Walter, and brand partnership with AMD.
