The board of directors of Vets2Set.org, the not-for-profit organization guiding U.S. military veterans into careers in entertainment and media production, has formed a leadership council.
Six leaders representing expertise in advertising, media production, financial management, and veteran employment have joined the Leadership Council of Vets2Set. Rick Boyko, Jeff Devlin, Matt Miller, Frank Monteiro, Perry Schaffer, and Alison Solomon have agreed to contribute their knowledge and experience and to spread the word among their colleagues about the effort to place two veterans on every shoot, whether for entertainment, advertising, sports, or other media production.
Vets2Set exploits the decades of experience of its co-founders, David Cohen and Peter Friedman, in television, film, online, and print media production, and Maureen Weigl (Col, ret) in human resource management, to open the door to veterans transitioning to civilian life. With the assistance of the newly appointed members of the leadership council, the circle of production companies, advertising agencies, major brands, entertainment and sports franchises, and veterans programs, Vets2Set will broaden its reach in finding paying jobs for veterans throughout the country wherever media production takes place.
USAF veteran Boyko spent 30 years creating advertising for major brands at advertising agencies including Leo Burnett, Chiat/Day, and Ogilvy & Mather. In 2003 Boyko stepped down from Ogilvy North America as co-president, CCO to become director and professor of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Brandcenter Masters Program. He has served on the boards of the 4A’s, Art Directors Club (ADC), One Club, and Advertising Week. From 2005 to 2013 he was Dean of the Roger Hatchuel Academy of the Cannes Festival.
Devlin is chief marketing officer, specialist leader, Government, Advertising and Commerce at Deloitte, with over 25 years of combined experience in creative strategies, management, and new business development. He has placed more than $1.2 billion in billings of key accounts, including NFL, Sirius/XM, and Atari. As chairman of Government Practice at WPP, he was instrumental in winning the US NAVY, Altice, AMTRAK, and the 2020 US CENSUS accounts.
Miller is president abnd CEO of the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP); that organization’s members account for 80 to 85 percent of all ads in motion image that air nationally, regardless of media platform.
Monteiro is chairman, president, and CEO of Drew Marine and has been in positions of financial leadership for more than 20 years, including positions as CFO at MacDermid Incorporated and Platform Specialty
Products.
Schaffer has been responsible for bringing together marketers and content creators to produce communications for numerous Fortune 1000 companies. Through his representation firm, SchafferRogers, he is aligned with a group of leading content creators, including production companies, filmmakers, and animation companies.
USAF Brigadier General (Ret) Solomon is president of the National Guard Youth Foundation. Having served nearly 36 years in the National Guard, her position prior to retirement was Assistant Adjutant General for Air, Maryland Air
National Guard. She was responsible for the overall management of a 1,500-person organization.
The launch of the Leadership Council coincides with the expansion of the Vets2Set website offering training materials, job listings, and a chat room for veterans.
