On June 3, a little more than a year after he earned inclusion in SHOOT’s 2015 New Directors Showcase, Deutsch Inc. producer Joe Pernice will have his feature Chasing Yesterday, which he wrote, produced and directed, open at New York’s Cinema Village. The film will then become available on iTunes and Amazon beginning on June 10. Announcement of the release was made by Marineo Pictures.
Chasing Yesterday is a coming-of-age story about a washed-up 20-something year old, a one-time hometown hero and track star, who is convinced by a local sweetheart to run a marathon and get his life back on track. The film stars Emmy® Award winner Eric Nelsen (Coming Through The Rye), Courtney Baxter (Night Has Settled) and Steve Schirripa (The Sopranos, Blue Bloods).
Filmed in 17 days–with a budget under $100,000–Chasing Yesterday screened at the Newport Beach Film Festival in 2015, was given the “Rising Star Award” at the Canada International Film Festival, was named “Best Home Grown Feature” at the Garden State Film Festival, received the “Director’s Award” from the North Carolina Film Awards competition and the “Award of Merit” from the Accolade Global Film Awards.
“We are thrilled for the release of Chasing Yesterday. To have the opportunity to make a film on such a low budget and be able to have it available to a mass audience, is an amazing testament to indie filmmaking,” said Pernice who currently directs and produces for Deutsch Inc. out of its New York office. Prior to that, he worked in the development office of Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Productions.
Chasing Yesterday co-stars Josh Flitter (License to Wed), Adam LeFevre (Gold), David A. Gregory (NBC’s Deception), and Emmy® Award winner Blanche Baker (Sixteen Candles). Pernice along with Courtney Baxter, Eric Nelsen and Sainty Nelsen produced.
