The Miami-Dade Office of Film and Entertainment has released a FilMiami Hurricane Production Guide, which addresses varied aspects of devising a hurricane and tropical storm preparedness plan. Having such a plan in place can help a producer qualify for and lower the cost of production insurance during Florida’s tropical weather season, which runs from June 1 through November 30.
More importantly, such a plan can save lives and protect property. Production companies should put their hurricane plan in writing not only for the insurance carrier, but also so workers have a clear understanding of how the company will operate before, during and after a storm. Businesses and individuals alike need to identify vulnerabilities ahead of time and take protective measures.
A preparedness plan should include production info and dates, evacuation and protection plans, provisions for equipment and vehicles, alternate locations, emergency contacts, an after-storm contingency plan, the designation of a hurricane plan coordinator and staff, and the availability of disaster kits.
