Monday’s live post-Oscar episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was the highest rated episode in the series’ 11-year history, averaging a 4.8 Household rating/11 share in the overnight markets, a full ratings point higher than the series’ previous high 3.8, earned a decade ago (1/26/04). The episode was the highest rated with women, 18-49 (2.1/11) and women, 25-54 (2.7/13) in the LPM Era (which began in the 08-09 season) (NSI WRAP Overnights, Weighted market average, Live +SD where available).
DeGeneres also set records across the daytime talk show’s social media channels following her Oscar hosting duties on Sunday, March 2nd as the ultimate selfie temporarily shut down Twitter:
• The record-breaking selfie was retweeted 3.14MM times, a Twitter record previously held by @BarackObama with 782K retweets (Twitter).
• “Ellen” added 2.7MM new followers after the tweet, making for a total of 27.4MM Twitter followers (Twitter analytics).
• @TheEllenShow currently ranks the number twelve Twitter user with the most followers (Twittercounter.com).
• As of Tuesday March 4, 2014 “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has attained over 13MM Facebook likes, with 500K new likes over the past two days (Facebook Insights).
• On Facebook today, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” ranks the #1 fastest growing television show page, #1 most-engaging, likes and #10 fastest growing pages, overall (allfacebook.com).
DeGeneres hosted a LIVE Post Oscar Special episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Monday, March 3rd. Ellen welcomed Academy Award winner for Best Actress, Cate Blanchett, Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actor, Jared Leto, and Lupita Nyong’o, Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress. Ellen recapped her Oscar hosting duties and revealed how the selfie came to be and how it broke Twitter. Plus, the winner of the night, pizza delivery man Edgar Martirosyan, stopped by the “Ellen” set and she gave him the $600 she had collected in tips and added another $400 (Ellen’s “Oscar Pizza Guy Gets His Tip” video is currently trending #1 on YouTube (YouTube)).To celebrate the milestone of Ellen using a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to take the record-breaking Oscar selfie, it was announced on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that Samsung is donating $1 for every retweet as of Monday and then rounded it up to 3MM. The money will be split between two charities of Ellen’s choice – St. Jude Children’s Hospital and The Humane Society of the United States.
