Josh C. Kline has been named the new CEO of Scripto, the innovative real-time, cloud-native platform designed for remote collaborative scriptwriting and production. Kline will steer Scripto into its next phase of growth. Plans call for Scripto to further transform collaboration throughout the writing and production stages, enabling creative teams to accelerate their workflow and enhance teamwork.
Emmyยฎ-winning programs such as โLate Night with Stephen Colbert,โ โLast Week Tonight with John Oliver,โ โThe Daily Show,โ and the Weekend Update on โSaturday Night Liveโ rely on Scriptoโs advanced workflow tools to allow show writers and production teams to work together seamlessly from any location.
โLate Nightโ host Colbert, co-founder of Scripto, said of Kline, โHis deep background in entertainment technology will help take our groundbreaking platform to new heights, and also ensure we are on the winning side when the AIs finally make their move, which we all know is coming. I canโt wait to see what weโll achieve together.
Kline brings a wealth of experience in technology and media. He previously served as head of media & entertainment at Box. Kline co-founded Sample Digital, where he developed Digital Dailiesโข, revolutionizing the review and approval process for film and TV production and earning him a Primetime Engineering Emmy Award. His entrepreneurial spirit continued with the launch of Secure Path Technology, a cloud-based content ID and metadata services company. Kline was chief strategy officer at Final Draft before joining Box as head of media & entertainment, and has consulted for major global clients including Microsoft, Avid, and Motion Picture Domain Registry.
โWhile more media is being produced for more platforms than ever before, the tools supporting modern production workflows simply have not kept pace–until now,โ said Kline. โScriptoโs elegant solution addresses the complex challenges of creative and production needs, no matter how and where teams are working.โ
โItโs not a coincidence that our clients are nominated for and win so many Emmys,โ added Kline. โScripto allows great writers and production teams more time to do their best work.โ
Scripto was born from the challenges of producing a daily scripted show with a large writing staff. Existing solutions were inefficient and lacked collaborative features, so Colbert and Emmy-winning โColbert Reportโ writer Rob Dubbin took matters into their own hands to move past the inefficiencies of standalone desktop software and emailing PDFs among writers and the production crew. They developed Scripto, the platform that combines the real-time collaboration features of Google Docs with professional scriptwriting and production tools such as rundowns and prompter integration, and a public API that enables the sharing of mission-critical data among stakeholders.
In addition to its use in TV shows, Scripto is relied upon by video game producers including Nerial, Finji, and Compulsion Games, news producers such as Bleacher Report, and awards shows such as The Clios.
Optimus promotes Caralyn Moore to editor
Caralyn Moore has been promoted to editor at Optimus, the production and post house with offices in Chicago and New York. Moore started at Optimus in 2019 as a seasoned assistant editor, next earning the title of senior assistant and now making the jump to editor.
Moore has cut spots for such brands as CDW, Chicago Humanities Festival, Famous Footwear, Hillshire Farm, Walgreens and WW. In addition, she edited the independent feature film All Happy Families, which premiered at the 60th Chicago International Film Festival last fall and is releasing in select AMC Theatres nationwide on September 20.
โEditing is like a big open-ended puzzle, where you only use a fraction of the pieces and there are no right answers (though there are definitely wrong ones),โ said Moore. โI love the challenge of finding the right balance of visuals, pacing, music, sound, and information--itโs precarious, itโs challenging, itโs endlessly creative and fun.โ
โCaralyn has proven time and again how skilled she is in her craft,โ said Angelo Valencia, Optimus managing editor/partner. โHer calming presence always makes you feel you are going to be well taken care of and her attention to detail is second to none. I am so excited for her to showcase her talent for everyone to see.โ
Born and raised in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, DC, Moore was passionate about theater classes at school and making short films with her friends and family. Her love of writing, acting and especially editing, landed her at Northwestern University for film school. Following graduation, Moore spent time in the documentary production world in Washington, DC, and then several years freelance assistant editing back in Chicago.
