Director, writer, producer and actor Peter Berg and makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath will receive honorary Clios at the 62nd annual Clio Awards ceremony hosted by Jai Rodriguez on April 28 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City.
Berg, who’s directed several of the most memorable Super Bowl commercials in recent history, will be celebrated with the 2022 Clio Visionary Award presented by Verizon for his multifaceted career as a storyteller and marketer.
Named by Vogue Worldwide chief content officer and global editorial director Anna Wintour as “the most influential makeup artist in the world,” McGrath has been selected to receive the 2022 Honorary Clio Award for her creative contributions to popular culture.
Additionally, the preliminary winners of the Clio Awards were released today with Gold, Silver and Bronze Clio statues awarded to entrants from nearly 50 countries. Among the Gold Clio winners in the Film category were Burger King’s “Confusing Times” from DAVID Madrid, KFC France’s “KFCinema” from Havas Paris, Burberry’s “Open Spaces” From Riff Raff Films, and UK Channel 4’s “Super Human” from 4creative, London. The Network, Agency, Independent Agency, Advertiser and Production Company of the Year, plus the Grand Clio Award winners will be announced on stage at the Clio’s first live ceremony since 2019’s 60th anniversary celebration.

The founder of Film 44, and co-founder of Film 45 and Film 47, Berg is well known in the advertising industry as the director of several iconic advertising spots, most recently Verizon’s “The Team That Wouldn’t Be Here,” NFL’s “100,” Frito Lay’s “Twas the Night Before Super Bowl” and Hyundai’s “Ryanville.” He got his start acting in the role of “Dr. Billy Kronk” on the medical drama Chicago Hope and made his directorial debut with the cult classic Very Bad Things (1998). Under his Film 44 banner, Berg has directed and produced feature films The Rundown (2003), Friday Night Lights (2004), Hancock (2008), Battleship (2012), Lone Survivor (2013), Patriots Day (2016), and many others. He served as an executive producer and director on the television adaptation of his feature film, Friday Night Lights, as well as the acclaimed HBO series The Leftovers and Ballers. Verizon CMO Diego Scotti, a friend and frequent collaborator, will present the award to Berg on stage at the 2022 Clio Awards.
For more than 30 years, McGrath has pursued the art of makeup, inspiring artistry lovers worldwide to “use without caution” in expressing their individuality and creativity. Beginning in the 1990s, she was celebrated for both her signature glowing skin, major makeup looks and subversive use of vibrant color, setting the stage for more than 3,300 runway shows, 401 magazine covers and countless advertising campaigns, to the founding of her eponymous brand Pat McGrath Labs in 2015, sharing her backstage secrets for the beauty obsessed worldwide. The brand continues to set new beauty brand “firsts” with collaborations ranging from streetwear brand Supreme™ to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and from the sci-fi splendor of Star Wars to the Regency-inspired beauty of the Shondaland and Netflix smash hit second season of Bridgerton. In 2017, she became the first makeup artist to receive The Council of Fashion Designers of America’s most prestigious honor, the Founder’s Award. The same year, the British Fashion Council honored her with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator. In May 2014, she received her MBE, or Member of the Order of the British Empire, for her services to the fashion and beauty industry; In December 2020, she was honored with a Damehood for services to the fashion and beauty industry and diversity–the first makeup artist to achieve such recognition.
