Rodrigo Saavedra Joins The Directors Bureau For U.S. Spots, Branded Content

The Directors Bureau has added director Rodrigo Saavedra to its roster for spots and branded content in the U.S.  He continues to be a director and partner at production house Landia in Brazil, which handles him in Latin America, Spain and the U.S. Hispanic market. He also is repped in the U.K. by Independent and in France by Wanda.

Native to Rio de Janeiro, Saavedra studied graphic design at St. Martin’s College of Art and Design in London.  Working as a creative after graduating, he made the rounds at WCRS London, Mother London, W+K Amsterdam, and then to Buenos Aires as a creative director at Santo.

Making the progression to directing in 2013, Saavedra has helmed campaigns for Budweiser, Chivas Regal, VW, Havaianas and Corona, among others.  His most recent work for Scrabble took the internet by storm, with Time Magazine calling it “the perfect love story for word nerds”.  It was awarded a Bronze Lion this year at Cannes. 

Rodrigo’s directing style is narrative driven with an emphasis on character study and art direction, instilling his images with a sense of humor and delight.

“Rodrigo’s work has a sense of whimsy and humor that is a perfect fit for our company,” said director Roman Coppola, a founding father of The Directors Bureau.  “The amount of great work he’s accomplished in the three years he’s been directing is remarkable, and I hope our advertising community stateside enjoys it as much as I do.”

Saavedra said he was drawn to The Directors Bureau’s roster of directorial talent. “Their work has always been a reference for me.  I’m a fan of advertising work that’s centered around a clear storyline but which is also very strong in terms of art direction.  So I was quite flattered when Roman and Lisa [managing director/EP Margulis] invited me to join the team.”
