Zeros & Ones Inc., a Santa Monica-based holding company with operations in content, technology and production, has launched an operating division focused on digital animation production: Zeros & Ones Studios.
Based in Santa Monica, the new venture is being headed by VP, managing director Tim Rummel, who joined the parent company in July 1999. Prior to that, he was a producer at Sony Online Entertainment, Culver City, Calif. Earlier, he was a producer and animator for CD-ROM projects at 7th Level, Los Angeles. Rummel most recently served as director of production for Zeros & Ones, Inc.
Of Zeros & Ones Studios, Rummel said: "We’re building a cutting-edge digital animation production company that will maximize the potential of Flash and other in-house 2-D animation tools to create media that plays across all platforms. The same animation can be broadcast quality and optimized for viewing on the Internet."
Initially drawing from the resources of Zeros & Ones Inc., Rummel is putting together an animation team headlined by Michael Adamo, who came aboard the parent firm last year. Previously, Adamo had established himself in commercials as co-founder of now defunct AMPnyc Animation, a New York-based studio that specialized in spots and shortform animation.
Rummel and Adamo have collaborated before, as executive producer and animation director, respectively, on the series Julius & Friends, created by sister division Zeros & Ones Entertainment. The animated series, which consists of 26 episodes, is scheduled to premiere on the Web later this year and is currently being customized for television.
