THE SPOTS
"Charmin/Campbell’s" shows a man in the woods in need of toilet paper. As he gathers leaves, he suddenly notices Spot, the Target mascot, sitting in a clearing with a package of Charmin Ultra. The second part of the ad features two men climbing a snowy mountain. When they get to the top, there’s Spot sitting behind a bowl filled with Campbell’s chicken noodle soup. "Centrum/Dove" opens on a man running on a treadmill, which he eventually goes flying off of. The ad cuts to Spot, who has a bottle of Centrum vitamins ready. The final part of the commercial features a young lady—whose back is to the camera—getting her make-up done for her wedding. When she turns around and inspects her face in the mirror, she is horrified to see awful yellow and blue eye shadow. Spot to the rescue with Dove soap and a stack of towels. Each :30 ends on a red background into which Spot runs, and the words, "See. Spot. Save." Finally, the familiar bull’s-eye logo is shown, along with the tag, "Expect more. Pay less."
Spots broke Dec. 28.
