THE SPOTS
The CG :30 "Balloon Art" opens to the sound of exhalation and stretching rubber, and finally to the sight of an expanding blue balloon. Next an orange Cingular "X" logo (a.k.a. Jack) blows air into the balloon and transforms himself into a squeaking blur as he busies himself with his balloon animals. No matter how hard Jack works, he can’t fashion the diverse menagerie in his mind’s eye, and in frustration ascribes different names to the same balloon animal (as shown in thought bubbles). A voiceover by Charlie Sheen crystallizes the dilemma: "Having just one way to express yourself can be frustrating," as the actor goes on to detail Cingular’s range of airtime options. Finally Jack consults the big book of "Balloonology," and whips up a remarkable likeness of George Washington crossing the Delaware. "Catwalk" (:30) opens against a stark white wall inscribed with "Cingular Fall Collection." Jack then appears holding a Nokia 3360 cell phone, and sashays down the runway to the accompaniment of flashbulbs and applause. Jack is joined by several look-alikes, each presenting a Nokia phone that is described in voiceover.
"Balloon Art" broke Aug. 6; "Catwalk" began airing Sept. 1.
