We view the interior of a posh, upscale restaurant, while a voiceover asks, "Are your washer and dryer wasting your money?"
The query seems incongruous as we watch the customers seated at different tables and hear a French-accented waiter inquire, "I hope everything is OK?"
Then the camera takes us to the corner table where the waiter is working. Seated there are a man and a woman dressed, respectively, in washer and dryer costumes.
"The lobster is extraordinary," she says. Her companion chimes in, "The wine is so crisp, with such an oak-y flavor."
"I hope you left room for dessert," advises the waiter, extolling the virtues of the pastry chef.
The spot ends with a supered message: "Avoid doing laundry between 4 pm-6 pm to reduce energy consumption." Beneath that appears the Salt River Project (SRP) logo and a tag that reads, "Energy Saving Solutions." The SRP is one of Arizona’s largest water-and-power utilities.
"Washer & Dryer" is one of six :15s for the SRP, directed by Rocky Lane of Space Program, Hollywood, for agency Cramer-Krasselt, Phoenix. The other spots have similarly wasteful premises, involving different household appliances—e.g., an air conditioner at an auction overbids for a piece of artwork; a pool pump shops for a luxury sports car.
Lane’s support team at Space Program included executive produ-cer Bill Reilly and producer Robyn Moskow. The package of spots was shot on location in Los Angeles by DP Jim Hawkinson.
The agency ensemble on the campaign consisted of creative director Ian Berry, associate creative director Dave Ragar, art director Stewart West, copywriter Travis Graham and producers Pam Parsons and Heather Candelaria.
Visual effects were done by Ring of Fire Advanced Media, West Hollywood; contributors there were Inferno artist Danny Yoon, animation artisan Casey Dane and producer Casey Conroy.
Roger Holmberg of Great Scott Productions, Phoenix, was offline and online editor. The mono-monikered Sparkle of Complete Post, Hollywood, served as colorist. Sound designer/audio mixer was Sam Esparza of Big U Music, Phoenix.
