BBH London Scores Best Of Show Honor For Johnnie Walker Short Film
The One Club announced the Gold, Silver and Bronze Pencil winners this evening (5/13) at the 35th Annual One Show. The ceremony, which took place at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, honored the year’s finest achievements in print, television, radio, outdoor, innovative marketing, integrated branding and branded content–and also took a historic look back at 35 years of the finest in advertising.
More than 600 advertising professional and guests celebrated the winners at the gala event produced by The One Club.
“Best of Show” was presented to BBH London for the Johnnie Walker short film, “The Man Who Walked Around the World.” This six-minute film was shot in one continuous take and stars Scottish actor Robert Carlyle.
Procter & Gamble was named “Client of the Year” for pushing the boundaries of creativity and taking risks with work including Old Spice’s “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” and Tampax’s “Zack Johnson.”
The One Show’s top Pencil winners included: TBWAHuntLascaris, Johannesburg with a total of five Pencils (two Gold, two Silver, one Bronze); Ogilvy & Mather, Singapore, also with five Pencils (one Gold, one Silver, three Bronze; Wieden+Kennedy, Portland, Ore., tallying four Pencils (two Gold, two Silver); and BBDO New York (one Gold, one Silver, one Bronze) and Ogilvy, Frankfurt with three apiece (one Gold, two Silver).
“This year’s One Show winners truly reflect the global nature of today’s creativity,” said The One Club’s Warlick. “Advertising is now shared and viewed all around the world, and the work that was awarded tonight showcased brilliant marketing solutions that transcended borders.”
This year’s Green Pencil Award, which recognizes outstanding work that is environmentally friendly or smart, was presented by leading eco-lifestyle expert Danny Seo, to the Berghs School of Communication and Stockholm University in Sweden. The students were recognized for their outstanding creative concept for MillionTreesNYC, a program with a goal to plant and care for one million trees across New York City’s five boroughs over the next decade. This was the first time student work has been recognized with a Green Pencil.

Google Opens Its Defense In Antitrust Case Alleging Monopoly Over Online Ad Technology
Google opened its defense against allegations that it holds an illegal monopoly on online advertising technology Friday with witness testimony saying the industry is vastly more complex and competitive than portrayed by the federal government.
"The industry has been exceptionally fluid over the last 18 years," said Scott Sheffer, a vice president for global partnerships at Google, the company's first witness at its antitrust trial in federal court in Alexandria.
The Justice Department and a coalition of states contend that Google built and maintained an illegal monopoly over the technology that facilitates the buying and selling of online ads seen by consumers.
Google counters that the government's case improperly focuses on a narrow type of online ads — essentially the rectangular ones that appear on the top and on the right-hand side of a webpage. In its opening statement, Google's lawyers said the Supreme Court has warned judges against taking action when dealing with rapidly emerging technology like what Sheffer described because of the risk of error or unintended consequences.
Google says defining the market so narrowly ignores the competition it faces from social media companies, Amazon, streaming TV providers and others who offer advertisers the means to reach online consumers.
Justice Department lawyers called witnesses to testify for two weeks before resting their case Friday afternoon, detailing the ways that automated ad exchanges conduct auctions in a matter of milliseconds to determine which ads are placed in front of which consumers and how much they cost.
