Super 8 scored a super three nominations for the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ 59th annual Golden Reel Awards. The three noms–in sound editing categories for music, dialogue & ADR, and sound effects & foley–represent the top tally of any movie in the feature film portion of the Golden Reel competition.
Right behind Super 8 with a pair of nominations apiece were the sound artisans on the movies Drive, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and War Horse.
In terms of special honors, feature/TV producer Gale Anne Hurd was named recipient of the 2012 Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Filmmaker Award. Hurd’s credits include TV’s The Walking Dead and such features as The Terminator.
And sound designer and editor George Watters II will be presented the Motion Picture Sound Editors Career Achievement Award.
All winners, spanning theatrical features, TV and other disciplines will be announced and honored during a gala ceremony on Feb. 19 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in downtown Los Angeles.
