Tool has added Australian writer/director Julius Avery to its roster of content creators. His filmography includes a number of award-winning short films, including End Of Town, which won him the Emerging Australian Filmmaker award at the Melbourne International Film Festival. His film Jerrycan, a nostalgic and harrowing episode of underage mischief, was the Jury Prize winner at the Cannes Film Festival, and received Honorable Mention at Sundance and Berlin. After completing his work on Jerrycan, he wrote and produced Yardbird, which won the 2013 Best Australian Short Film at Flickerfest and Special Jury Mention at the Tribeca Film Festival. Avery joins Tool following his work as writer/director on his 2014 debut feature film Son of a Gun. Starring Ewan McGregor, the movie follows a young man’s prison stint, new membership in a gang, and an eventual heist. This year, Son of a Gun was picked up by distribution and production firm A24….
New York-based production and animation studio Not To Scale has added directorial team Manson to its roster. Most recently, the Barcelona-based mixed media collective Manson–which consists of Tomรกs Peรฑa, Pau Lรณpez Peรฑalver, Martรญ Carรณs and Oriol Caba–helped tell the story of Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh in collaboration with BBH Los Angeles for Google Play and The California Sunday Magazine. Manson has worked with numerous clients including Nike, MTV and Adidas. Bowersโ recent film scores include The Wild Robot and Bob Marley: One Love, alongside acclaimed past works such as The Color Purple (2023), King Richard and Green Book. His contributions to television are equally impressive, with scores for hit series like Bridgerton, When They See Us, Dear White People, and his Daytime Emmy Award-winning score for The Snowy Day.
In addition to his work as a composer, Bowers is a visionary director. He recently took home the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject for his directorial work on The Last Repair Shop. The emotionally touching short film spotlights four of the people responsible for repairing the musical instruments used by students in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The Last Repair Shop reflects the positive influence that musical instruments have on the youngsters who play them, and the adults in the LAUSD free repair service who keep them working and in tune.
