Post facility Slingshot, New York, has added editor Terence Ziegler, who joins the company from Invisible Dog, New York, where he worked for the last five years.
Among Ziegler’s recent editing credits are "Out of the Cupboard" for Wyler’s out of Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis, and "Anthropology" for Tropicana via Foote, Cone & Belding (FCB), New York. At press time, Ziegler was in the process of completing his last job through Invisible Dog: a Snackwell’s spot for FCB, New York.
According to Slingshot VP/ executive producer Stephen Ashkinos, Ziegler was brought to the company’s attention by Slingshot editor Jim Rubino, who plays basketball with Ziegler. "Over the course of several months, they were talking about Slingshot," said Ashkinos. "Terence became very interested, so we met with him. He fits in very nicely with what we’re trying to do."
Askinos said that Slingshot was impressed after screening Ziegler’s reel, which displayed a style of work that fills a niche for its editorial division. Specifically, said Ashkinos, Ziegler is adept at quick-cutting on youth-oriented fare, but is also skilled at cutting dialogue. "That’s been a difficult mix to find in an editor, because it’s usually one or the other," said Ashkinos. "For a few years in the industry, everything was MTV-styled, but now everything seems to be going back to dialogue. What I really liked about his reel was that it showed he can do anything and everything."
Ziegler explained that after listening to Rubino talk about Slingshot, "it was a pretty easy decision for me [to join]. They’re a younger company and they’re excited about their potential. Stephen [Ashkinos], especially, has some very big ideas about what this company will be, and I thought that was exciting."
Ziegler moved to New York in ’91 and worked as a staff photographer and designer at the New York Hospital’s neuroscience department. He joined Invisible Dog as an apprentice in ’95, assisting editor/company partner Richard Rosenbaum for two years.
"I got some clients very quickly after that," recalled Ziegler. "I guess I was in the right place at the right time." His first project as an editor was a US West spot out of N.W. Ayer & Partners, New York, for which he subsequently cut other US West spots, as well as several General Motors and Sunny Delight spots.
Highlights of Ziegler’s work at Invisible Dog included spots for Lucent, Clairol, LifeSavers and Oreos for FCB, New York; Oil of Olay via Saatchi & Saatchi, New York; a presentation piece for Ford Motor Co. out of Ogilvy & Mather, New York; and the Pennsylvania State Lottery out of Tierney & Partners, Philadelphia.
The shop formerly known as Morty’s Digitorial was reincarnated as Slingshot last May. Ziegler joins a creative editorial roster also comprised of partners Morty Ashkinos and Bruce Ashkinos, as well as editors Noelle Webb and Rubino.
