The top ten SHOOT stories that generated the most engagement (clicks to view) in 2022 included: a report on how NBC’s deal for U.S. media rights to the Olympics, once thought savvy, has turned lackluster; key hirings of Lara Horowitz at Hogarth Worldwide, Aimee Pagano at VMLY&R and Nick Law at Accenture Interactive; some Monday morning quarterbacking by advertising agency creatives and execs who assessed this year’s crop of Super Bowl commercials; and the premiere of Henry Louis Gates Jr.’s PBS series Making Black America: Through the Grapevine.
Topping the click tally for SHOOT in 2022 was a report questioning the prudence of NBC’s deal for the American media rights to the Olympics through 2032 for $7.75 billion–particularly in light of the Winter Games in Beijing which were a disaster for the network.
Next up in second place of our rundown of most viewed stories this year was coverage of Kellogg’s decision to split into three companies focused on cereals, snacks and plant-based foods.
Third in our countdown was a look at Henry Louis Gates Jr.’s four-part PBS series Making Black America: Through the Grapevine. Gates is a steady chronicler of Black history and culture whose more than a dozen documentaries include 2021’s Emmy-nominated The Black Church: This is Our Story, This is Our Song. He’s also the host and producer of PBS’ Finding Your Roots.
Finishing fourth in the most watched SHOOT story tally was a Toolbox item reporting on DaVinci Resolve for iPad becoming available in Q4 of 2022.
Taking fifth place was an assessment of this year’s Super Bowl commercials by advertising agency creatives and execs who had no ads in the Big Game. With no axe to grind, they shared the unvarnished truth of what they thought about Super Sunday ads–the good, the bad and the ugly.
Coming in as the sixth most clicked story was a review of director Nicholas Stoller’s Bros, the first gay romantic comedy feature produced and distributed by a major American studio.
Seventh in the countdown was the hiring of Lara Horowitz as creative director for the North American team of Hogarth Worldwide, WPP’s specialist content production company.
Ending up eighth in our click count for 2022 was VMLY&R adding Aimee Pagano as global head of talent acquisition while Tasha Gilroy had been promoted to global chief equity, inclusion and belonging officer.
Nestling in ninth place was the February 25th installment of our Street Talk column.
And rounding out our top ten countdown was the appointment of Nick Law as global lead, design & creative tech, for Accenture Interactive, with Sarah Thompson also coming aboard as global lead, communications & content.
