A standalone music video competition has been launched by the Shark Awards with famed director Vaughan Arnell at the helm as jury president.
Known for directing some of the most celebrated music videos featuring highly acclaimed artists, Arnell will oversee all music video juries at what’s been dubbed the Shark Awards Music Video.
This year marks a new direction for the Shark Awards with the Advertising, Short Film and Music Video competition separated into three separate specialist awards and festivals. Music video entries close on December 31 with plans for a dedicated festival in the seaside town of Brighton, U.K., in the spring (needless to say subject to change) with panels, talks, screenings and award presentations.
Category changes this year include Best Music Video now awarded as a Grand Prix which will be recognized with the prestigious White Shark trophy. Music Video Production Company of the Year and Music Video Post Production Company of the Year honors have also been added.
Music videos were introduced to the Shark Awards in 2016. For the Shark Awards jury, the brightest and best creators and commissioners will judge for best music video, direction, writing, choreography, cinematography, grading, editing and design.
The music video jury so far is comprised of a cast of the top creative talent from Island Records, Academy, Compulsory, FRIEND, Andrew Law Commissions, PRETTYBIRD, Marisa Garner Associates, Defected Records, Black Dog Films, Rogue, HAMLET, and No. 8 along with acclaimed director Lochlainn McKenna and DP Aaron Reid.
Shark Awards chairman Peter Brady said, “Since its inception music video has provided an exciting outlet for on screen creative expression without limitations, a license to break the rules and facilitate the emergence of unrestricted innovation, experimentation, and the ability to generate unbridled creativity. This legacy has given great music videos the right to be recognized and awarded for the unique position they hold in delivering evolving creativity and craft.”
Director and jury president Arnell added, “Music videos have become an all inspiring art form that never fails to excite me. Let’s celebrate these works of genius and all the great talent, the long shoot days, the sleepless nights, the arguments, the tears and the absolute joy of making a music video. There are so many people behind any one video. Teams who work through the night, all with that one goal of creating something different and fresh. They are the game changers.”
SCHROM x Yacht Club and Be Electric Studios Launch Electric XR for Virtual Production
SCHROM x Yacht Club, a full-service live-action, tabletop, and postproduction company, has teamed with Be Electric Studios, a soundstage, equipment rental, and virtual production company, to launch Electric XR, a virtual production collective.
Industry veteran Thomas Rossano will lead the new venture, which provides advanced virtual production solutions across multiple facilities. He brings over 25 years of experience in live-action, tabletop, postproduction and talent curation to enhance Electric XR’s offerings as a resource for brands and agencies, as well as other production companies in need of virtual production solutions. Additionally Rossano continues to serve as EP at XR New York (XR-NY), a role he’s held since December 2022. SCHROM x Yacht Club originally established XR-NY to help provide XR services for third-party rentals. While XR-NY will continue to function independently for SCHROM X Yacht Club, it now operates under the Electric XR umbrella.
Rossano’s expertise spans producing live-action commercials, branded content, interactive and experiential content. In addition to leading Electric XR, he holds responsibilities at SCHROM x Yacht Club which include driving business development, collaborating with sales reps and expanding the company’s creative talent network. Rossano’s career includes serving as an exec producer at Hungry Man for about 11 years, right from that company’s inception. He then went on to become a partner at Station Film where he also had a lengthy tenure. Later he was a partner at PRISM. Then after the pandemic hit, he became a freelance EP for nearly two years, looking into opportunities in virtual production, which led him to XR NY and now Electric XR. Over the years, he has produced high-profile... Read More
