After 22 years in Boston, September Productions is shuttering its office in that city, and moving all operations to its New York base. The company has also closed September Film, its Boston-based corporate- and industrial-video division.
According to September’s director/president/owner Dan Driscoll, the consolidation of the offices "just made the most financial sense. Having two offices so close to each other was a luxury." Another factor in the move was that the company has been getting most of its business from New York and Los Angeles agencies, Driscoll said.
September head of production Kim Daniels had not yet decided whether to relocate to New York at press time. In-house media and production coordinator Clare Shepherd said she is departing, and considering positions on the agency side. Executive producer Sonta Giamber and production coordinator Kellie Nichols are already situated in the company’s New York office. "We are cutting back on real estate; the staff size is staying the same," stated Driscoll.
September’s directors Elena Colombo, Neil Salley and Paul Henschel remain on the company’s roster. However, comedy/ tabletop director Bill Cuccinello, a 13-year veteran of September, has departed and signed with Boston- and Santa Monica-based spot house Picture Park.
According to Driscoll, Cuccinello has "a very loyal following" in Boston, and wants to remain in the vicinity. "We were like brothers, Driscoll declared. "But it’s business, unfortunately."
Cuccinello’s September credits include the Cartoon Network promos "Anger Management" and "Cafeteria" via the network’s Atlanta-based in-house agency; McDonald’s’ "Taste Test" via Arnold Communications, Boston; and Energy Star’s "Ice Cream" via Bozell Kamstra, Boston. "I watch a lot of television, and try to keep current with the different styles. Right now, I do a lot of tabletop combined with humor," noted Cuccinello.
At Picture Park, Cuccinello joins directors John Huet, Jonathan Bekemeier, Harry McCoy, Damon Santostefano and Two Potato, a team which comprises Khari Streeter and Demane Davis. The house is repped on the East Coast by New York-based Perry Schaffer, on the West Coast by Los Angeles-based Lisa Gimenez, and in the Midwest by Chicago-based Karen Kovach.
September’s representation is handled on the West Coast by Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Pat O’Hara, and on the East Coast by Bedford, N.Y.-based Michael Eha. The company is searching for a Midwest rep.
