Canine chicanery is the order of the day in this :60 for 3Com modem and Internet technology out of agency Allbee/Green in Orem, Utah. The spot opens on a loving woman who bids her pooch goodbye as she walks out the front door. That’s the cue for the dog—a.k.a. Scooter—to start roving the Internet, his paws proving to be nimble across the computer keyboard. He connects with fellow doggies and they share insights on such pressing matters as trees, hydrants, cats and drinking out of toilet bowls.
But then the Web opens to an item of even more captivating interest—a photo of a poodle in a bikini. The dogs become wolves, a Pavlovian response to the sight of a foxy looker.
However, before salivation can begin, Scooter’s owner has returned. She walks back into the house and for a moment all seems normal. She has no idea that her beloved dog has been surfing the net—that is, until she discovers a full color photo of the ooh-la-la poodle in the printer. A sheepish look from Scooter acknowledges the fact that he has been caught red-pawed.
"Scooter" was directed and shot by Greg Kiefer of Cosmic Pictures, Salt Lake City. Nancy Moore served as producer of the job, which was lensed on location in Salt Lake City.
The agency team included creative director Kevin Allbee, copywriter Kevin Peaslee and art director Wayne Pullman.
The spot was edited by Bryan Nielsen of Cosmic Pictures. Nielsen and Kiefer teamed on sound design for "Scooter." Music was composed by Kem Kraft of Kem Kraft Studios, Salt Lake City.
The on-camera dogs came from animal specialty house Critters, Los Angeles. Kiefer said he had a double for each of the six dogs that appeared in the spot. Two trainers were on hand during the day-and-a-half shoot.
Kiefer has maintained Cosmic Pictures for the past three years. He continues to be repped nationally via Concrete Productions, Dallas. Cosmic remains home to the director’s local spotwork in Utah.
