In this animated :30, Colorado Lottery balls bounce about, transforming into snippets of wildlife and breathtaking state scenery, including blooming flowers and a flowing stream. There’s even a deer galloping within one of the balls, propelling it across the screen.
Emerging from the cavalcade of balls is a scene of the snow-covered Rocky Mountains, underscoring the fact that nature and wildlife are beneficiaries of money raised by the Colorado Lottery. Finally, a half-dozen numbered balls fill the screen. Underneath them, the message, "Six numbers add up to pure fun" appears. The commercial ends with the Colorado Lottery logo, accompanied by the slogan, "Your ticket to a more beautiful Colorado."
"Salt" has an unusual look and feel. What makes it especially eye-catching is the way in which the visuals have been created—the images are actually colored salt, manipulated with a condor feather by Polish director/animator Aleksandra Korejwo, who is repped for commercials by Acme Filmworks, Hollywood. Each frame of animation art was rendered and shot under a top-lit Oxberry camera. Korejwo is known for this unique brand of animation, which was recently recognized with a nomination in this year’s Annie Awards competition for "Every Move You Make," a spot promoting Baltimore’s Sinai Hospital (SHOOT, 1/17, p. 7).
"Salt" was conceived by a creative ensemble at Karsh & Hagan, Denver, consisting of creative director Don Poole, art director Troy Farrow, copywriter Kathryn Russell and producer Susanne Soderberg.
Korejwo’s support team at Acme Filmworks included executive producer Ron Diamond, head of production Peter Barg, producer Holly Stone, camera operator Annette Buehre-Nickerson, digital supervisor Michael O’Donnell and offline editor/post supervisor George Khair.
Henry artist/online editor was Eric Novisedlak of Scheer Effects, Hollywood. Digital file layoff was performed by Mac graphics artist Patrick Motta. Audio engineer was freelancer Kevin Halpin.
Composer/sound designer was Ravi Krishnaswami of Sacred Noise, New York. Jeff Rosner and Marit Burch of Sacred Noise served as executive producer and producer, respectively.
