THE SPOT
A three-spot package spotlights Sony Walkman audio products and features the blue-furred extraterrestrial Plato. In "Athens Beach" (:30), a crowd of partygoers head to the beach where they download an X-ecutioners party mix from their laptops to mini discs. As the hour approaches 10, Plato walks through the throng and onto the lifeguard tower. He raises his finger, signaling the kids to insert the mini discs into their Sony Mini Disc Walkmans. A surprised sheriff checks out the scene as the crowd of youths dance silently on the beach. Finally one teen places headphones on the officer to give him a taste of the aural experience powered by Atrac Digital Sound. "Morning After" (:30) captures the day after the Athens Beach party. The spot opens on a woman who is sleeping on the sand. Next to her is Plato, who is clad in a plaid button-up shirt. He looks around in confusion and takes a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera out of his pocket to reveal documentation of last night’s escapades with the female. He notices a car and tries to make a beeline for it only to realize that he is chained to the woman. She wakes up and asks in French, "Where do you think you’re going?" And in "Music Library" (:30), a lady checks out Plato’s impressive record collection at his house. She tries to get his attention, but he is busy downloading music onto his computer. Finally the woman stands up and puts on her jacket to leave. Plato walks over and hands her a burned CD and a Sony CD Walkman, which plays 490 songs on one CD. The spot ends with the woman’s jacket being thrown onto a chair—apparently she’s decided to stay awhile.
"Athens Beach" and "Morning After" broke July 16, and "Music Library" began airing Aug. 4.
