Wieden+Kennedy (W+K) has named Patty Brebner as director of integrated production. The newly created role will oversee all production disciplines across the Portland office, including: broadcast, interactive, art (production), business affairs, studio, and content services.
“The demand for content, the myriad storytelling platforms, and the need to produce quickly has changed our production realities. What hasn’t changed is our desire to tell rich stories and create effective work,” said Mark Fitzloff, executive creative director. “We realized we needed to reframe the production department internally.”
Added Fitzloff, “We were looking for someone with vision and objectivity to oversee every individual production discipline in the building, and then we realized we already had someone for the job–someone who has been working for or in the agency for nearly 20 years.”
Brebner joined W+K in 1996 as a broadcast producer working with clients Microsoft and Nike. In 2000, she was asked to serve as executive producer for JOINT, a postproduction house that, at the time, was a team of three consisting of an editor, assistant and admin operating independently, yet housed inside the W+K building. Today JOINT is a fully integrated creative post company–with offices in Portland and New York City–specializing in video content for TV, online, mobile, and live experiences. As managing director, Brebner’s professionalism and business acumen, as well as her ability to recruit and retain talent, has helped JOINT produce some of the industry’s most awarded work. Brebner spearheaded the expansion of JOINT to include high-caliber VFX and audio services. In addition to the work JOINT does for W+K creative work, JOINT’s roster of clients includes agencies, Fortune 500 advertisers, television shows (e.g. Portlandia), as well as a host of independent films. Additionally, Brebner oversaw W+K’s content production services department–an internal production support department responsible for W+K video productions, media asset management and the global W+K library.
“I love to make things, to build things, innovate, imagine and dream big. Production is a creative discipline at its core; there have never been more ways for production to support and express a creative vision,” commented Brebner. “Production is growing increasingly layered and complex, and technology is unlocking more ways to design and tell stories. I am thrilled to be at the helm during such an exciting time for W+K producers.”
Oscar and Emmy-Winning Composer Kris Bowers Joins Barking Owl For Advertising, Branded Content
Music, audio post and sonic branding house Barking Owl has taken on exclusive representation of Oscar and Emmy-winning composer Kris Bowers for advertising and branded content.
Bowers’ recent film scores include The Wild Robot and Bob Marley: One Love, alongside acclaimed past works such as The Color Purple (2023), King Richard and Green Book. His contributions to television are equally impressive, with scores for hit series like Bridgerton, When They See Us, Dear White People, and his Daytime Emmy Award-winning score for The Snowy Day.
In addition to his work as a composer, Bowers is a visionary director. He recently took home the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject for his directorial work on The Last Repair Shop. The emotionally touching short film spotlights four of the people responsible for repairing the musical instruments used by students in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The Last Repair Shop reflects the positive influence that musical instruments have on the youngsters who play them, and the adults in the LAUSD free repair service who keep them working and in tune.
Barking Owl CEO Kirkland Alexander Lynch said of Bowers, “His artistry, diversity of style and depth of storytelling bring an unparalleled edge to the work we create for global brands. His presence on our roster reflects our continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of sound and music in advertising.”
Johanna Cranitch, creative director, Barking Owl, added, “Kris first caught my attention when he released his record ‘Heroes + Misfits’ where he fused together his jazz sensibility with a deeply ingrained aptitude for melody, so beautifully.... Read More
