Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Garrett Bradley has joined the roster of PRETTYBIRD for representation worldwide spanning commercials, branded content, other advertising forms, and music videos.
The Oscar nod came in 2021 for Best Feature Documentary on the strength of Time, which garnered assorted honors, including winning a Peabody Award in 2020. That same year, Time earned Best Director distinction at the Sundance Film Festival, making Bradley the first Black female to gain such recognition at the festival.
Time tells the story of Sibil “Fox Rich” Richardson whose husband Rob was imprisoned for what turned out to be 21 years. Time shows us the impact of Rob’s incarceration on her and their six children. The film does more than chronicle the injustice of a far too harsh prison sentence on Rob and its profound effect on loved ones. The film serves as an almost lyrical ode blending intimate original footage captured by Bradley with archival family video taken by Fox of her kids at various stages of their lives. We see in this blend of home movies and Bradley’s footage a mom struggling to raise a family, turning her life around to become a successful professional. Yet all the while audiences feel both her enduring love for Rob and the ongoing ache she and the kids feel due to his imprisonment. He is an absent husband and father but paradoxically for Fox he is seemingly always present–in her heart and mind as she strives to have him set free one day.
Bradley’s genre-defying work illustrates a visionary authorship ranging from award-winning films to episodic television and multi-channel video installation work. As reflected in public exhibitions, assorted publications, and an inclusion in both Time Magazine’s “The 25 Defining Works of the Black Renaissance” and Barack Obama’s 2020 favorite movie list for Time, Bradley has become an influential artist whose bold approach is crucial for our time.
Kerstin Emhoff, PRETTYBIRD’s co-founder and CEO, said, “The entire leadership team of PRETTYBIRD is excited to welcome Garrett to our nest! We look forward to working with her as she explores her powerful vision in the world of advertising and music.”
Prior to joining PRETTYBIRD, Bradley was repped in the advertising arena by m ss ng p eces.
In addition to Time, Bradley–who was born and raised in New York City–has been lauded for other work including her short documentary film Alone (2017). Produced and distributed by The New York Times OpDox. Alone earned a Sundance Jury Prize.
