Oppenheimer topped the Critics Choice Awards tally with eight wins–for best picture, acting ensemble, director (Christopher Nolan), visual effects, cinematography (Hoyte van Hoytema), editing (Jennifer Lame), musical score (Ludwig Gรถransson) and supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.). The Critics Choice Association unveiled and honored the winners at a gala ceremony on Sunday (1/14) night in Los Angeles.
Next on the feature side with six wins was Barbie which was recognized for best comedy, best original screenplay (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach), song (“I’m Just Ken”), production design (Sarah Greenwood, Katie Spencer), costume design (Jacqueline Durran), and hair & make-up.
Best actor and actress honors went to Paul Giamatti and Emma Stone for The Holdovers and Poor Things, respectively. The Holdovers also topped the best supporting actress and best young actor/actress categories based on the respective performances of Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa.
Cord Jefferson won best adapted screenplay for American Fiction.
Anatomy of a Fall was named best foreign language film. And Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earned distinction as best animated feature.
On the television front, Succession, The Bear and Beef each garnered multiple wins, including taking the marquee categories–Succession for best drama series, The Bear for best comedy series, and Beef for best limited series.
