Matt Bonin is joining Ogilvy & Mather New York in the new role of chief production officer, from TBWAChiatDay where he was executive director of integration.
“He knows how to pull all the levers of production, at all the right times, in the service of the idea,” said Steve Simpson, chief creative officer of Ogilvy & Mather North America. “Matt’s arrival accelerates the work we have done at Ogilvy in working in a more fully, deeply integrated way and–beyond process–he will be central to our efforts to develop new kinds of content.”
As chief production officer, Bonin will be responsible for unifying all creative production needs. Broadcast, print, digital, technology solutions, film and other creative channels will all work through him and an integrated production team.
“Reaching the consumer at all the touch points available is the ambition of all brands today,” Bonin said. “We are now in a position to not only create unique forms of content but to create new kinds of channels where consumers can interact with brands. I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to do this with the world class brands in the Ogilvy portfolio.”
Bonin spent five years at Crispin, Porter + Bogusky from 2004-2009, helping to originate the integrated production model with work for such clients as Burger King, Volkswagen and Microsoft. He left CP+B to lead integrated production for Trailer Park, an agency-production company hybrid. Bonin moved to the Production Company world as executive producer for film and digital production efforts for Tool of North America. He then joined TBWAChiatDay last year and in his role as executive director of integration oversaw innovation and integrated production efforts as well as digital production and digital development.
Among the work he helped produce or oversee at Crispin Porter + Bogusky are Cannes winners MINI Cooper “Counterfeit,” Burger King’s “X-box Games,” and “Whopperette’s,” and Microsoft’s “I am a PC.” While Executive Producer for Tool, Bonin worked on a variety of clients across every director on the roster, but notably the Cannes winner “Help I need Help” film campaign by director Geordie Stephens for Agency 215 out of San Francisco.
At TBWAChiatDay, Bonin oversaw the Grammy Awards 2012 integrated campaign, Nissan’s “MyVersaRoadTrip.com,” as well as “Pacific Standard Time,” an integrated project for the Getty Foundation. The latter two were cited in SHOOT‘s coverage of TBWAChiatDay and TBWAMedia Arts Lab as Agency of the Year (SHOOT, 12/16/11).
Oscar Nominees Delve Into The Art Of Editing At ACE Session
You couldn’t miss Sean Baker at this past Sunday’s Oscar ceremony where he won for Best Picture, Directing, Original Screenplay and Editing on the strength of Anora. However, earlier that weekend he was in transit from the Cesar Awards in Paris and thus couldn’t attend the American Cinema Editors (ACE) 25th annual panel of Academy Award-nominated film editors held at the Regal LA Live Auditorium on Saturday (3/1) in Los Angeles. While the eventual Oscar winner in the editing category was missed by those who turned out for the ACE “Invisible Art, Visible Artists” session, three of Baker’s fellow nominees were on hand--Dávid Jancsó, HSE for The Brutalist; Nick Emerson for Conclave; and Myron Kerstein, ACE for Wicked. Additionally, Juliette Welfling, who couldn’t appear in person due to the Cesar Awards, was present via an earlier recorded video interview to discuss her work on Emilia Pérez. The interview was conducted by ACE president and editor Sabrina Plisco, ACE who also moderated the live panel discussion. Kerstein said that he was the beneficiary of brilliant and generous collaborators, citing, among others, director Jon M. Chu, cinematographer Alice Brooks, and visual effects supervisor Pablo Helman. The editor added it always helps to have stellar acting performances, noting that hearing Cynthia Erivo, for example, sing live was a revelation. Kerstein recalled meeting Chu some eight years ago on a “blind Skype date” and it was an instant “bromance”--which began on Crazy Rich Asians, and then continued on such projects as the streaming series Home Before Dark and the feature In The Heights. Kerstein observed that Chu is expert in providing collaborators with... Read More
