Matt Bonin is joining Ogilvy & Mather New York in the new role of chief production officer, from TBWAChiatDay where he was executive director of integration.
“He knows how to pull all the levers of production, at all the right times, in the service of the idea,” said Steve Simpson, chief creative officer of Ogilvy & Mather North America. “Matt’s arrival accelerates the work we have done at Ogilvy in working in a more fully, deeply integrated way and–beyond process–he will be central to our efforts to develop new kinds of content.”
As chief production officer, Bonin will be responsible for unifying all creative production needs. Broadcast, print, digital, technology solutions, film and other creative channels will all work through him and an integrated production team.
“Reaching the consumer at all the touch points available is the ambition of all brands today,” Bonin said. “We are now in a position to not only create unique forms of content but to create new kinds of channels where consumers can interact with brands. I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to do this with the world class brands in the Ogilvy portfolio.”
Bonin spent five years at Crispin, Porter + Bogusky from 2004-2009, helping to originate the integrated production model with work for such clients as Burger King, Volkswagen and Microsoft. He left CP+B to lead integrated production for Trailer Park, an agency-production company hybrid. Bonin moved to the Production Company world as executive producer for film and digital production efforts for Tool of North America. He then joined TBWAChiatDay last year and in his role as executive director of integration oversaw innovation and integrated production efforts as well as digital production and digital development.
Among the work he helped produce or oversee at Crispin Porter + Bogusky are Cannes winners MINI Cooper “Counterfeit,” Burger King’s “X-box Games,” and “Whopperette’s,” and Microsoft’s “I am a PC.” While Executive Producer for Tool, Bonin worked on a variety of clients across every director on the roster, but notably the Cannes winner “Help I need Help” film campaign by director Geordie Stephens for Agency 215 out of San Francisco.
At TBWAChiatDay, Bonin oversaw the Grammy Awards 2012 integrated campaign, Nissan’s “MyVersaRoadTrip.com,” as well as “Pacific Standard Time,” an integrated project for the Getty Foundation. The latter two were cited in SHOOT‘s coverage of TBWAChiatDay and TBWAMedia Arts Lab as Agency of the Year (SHOOT, 12/16/11).
Apple and Google Face UK Investigation Into Mobile Browser Dominance
Apple and Google aren't giving consumers a genuine choice of mobile web browsers, a British watchdog said Friday in a report that recommends they face an investigation under new U.K. digital rules taking effect next year.
The Competition and Markets Authority took aim at Apple, saying the iPhone maker's tactics hold back innovation by stopping rivals from giving users new features like faster webpage loading. Apple does this by restricting progressive web apps, which don't need to be downloaded from an app store and aren't subject to app store commissions, the report said.
"This technology is not able to fully take off on iOS devices," the watchdog said in a provisional report on its investigation into mobile browsers that it opened after an initial study concluded that Apple and Google effectively have a chokehold on "mobile ecosystems."
The CMA's report also found that Apple and Google manipulate the choices given to mobile phone users to make their own browsers "the clearest or easiest option."
And it said that the a revenue-sharing deal between the two U.S. Big Tech companies "significantly reduces their financial incentives" to compete in mobile browsers on Apple's iOS operating system for iPhones.
Both companies said they will "engage constructively" with the CMA.
Apple said it disagreed with the findings and said it was concerned that the recommendations would undermine user privacy and security.
Google said the openness of its Android mobile operating system "has helped to expand choice, reduce prices and democratize access to smartphones and apps" and that it's "committed to open platforms that empower consumers."
It's the latest move by regulators on both sides of the Atlantic to crack down on the... Read More
