Commercial editor Peter Odiorne has signed with Crew Cuts, New York. Crew Cuts also maintains shops in San Francisco and Santa Monica, Calif.
Since April 1998, Odiorne has edited through the New York operation of Mad River Post, a company which also has offices in Santa Monica and San Francisco.
Commenting on his new roost, Odiorne told SHOOT that Chuck Willis and Clayton Hemmert, Crew Cuts’ partners/editors, were two of the first people he met when he moved to New York from the West Coast in ’96.
"They took the time to look at my reel, we had an informational meeting and since then they have made an effort to keep in contact," explains Odiorne. "I talked to them from time to time; an opportunity came up during one of our recent conversations, and so I decided to join the company."
From ’93 to ’95, Odiorne worked at now defunct Red Sky Films, San Francisco, as an assistant editor to one of the founding partners—Doug Werby. He then worked as a freelance assistant for companies including FilmCore Editorial, San Francisco, where he assisted staff editors Doug Walker and Kim Bica. (FilmCore also has offices in Santa Monica and a broadcast distribution arm in Hollywood.)
After relocating to New York in ’96, Odiorne freelanced for two years for companies such as NFL Films, Mt. Laurel, N.J., before landing a staff job at Progressive Image Group (P.I.G.), New York. He was only at P.I.G. for a few months before joining Mad River Post.
Credits through Mad River include a three-spot campaign for adidas, comprising "Focused," "Traxion" and "Long Day," directed by Erich Joiner of bicoastal Tool of North America, via Leagas Delaney, San Francisco; an eight-spot campaign for ESPN’s NFL coverage, directed by Paul Norling of bicoastal/ international hungry man via Wieden+Kennedy, New York; and a seven-spot package for the ’00 RCA Tennis Championships, including "Balldog-Nipper," "Slob," "Chase," and "Tug-of-War," directed by Hank Perlman of hungry man via Lowe Lintas & Partners, New York. Odiorne also cut the EA Sports ’01 Fall Sports Campaign out of Odiorne Wilde Narraway & Partners, San Francisco, directed by David Jellison of Tool of North America. (Peter’s brother Jeff is the Odiorne partnered in that agency).
Commenting on the new hire, Willis said that Peter Odiorne had left a lasting impression on himself and Hemmert when the editor approached the company several years ago, but at the time there weren’t any opportunities. Odiorne’s reel has developed since then, and the timing had become right at Crew Cuts to sign an additional editor.
"His reel shows a great personality and has a good feel to it," observed Willis. "Peter has done a lot of comedy spots, which is something we do here, and he chose for his reel commercials which were a little bit quirky, a little bit odd, which we like."
Apart from Hemmert and Willis, other editors at Crew Cuts, New York, are Sherri Margulies (who is also a partner), Karen Kourtessis, Kristy Jacobs, Mark Block, Sophie Scoufaras, Colin Wolf, Sabrina Huffman, Mark Hutchinson and Nicole Futoran.
Crew Cuts is represented nationally by the company’s executive producer, Nancy Shames.
