Sound designer/composer Jim Kremens, who for eight years had been scoring commercials on a freelance basis, has signed with New York Noise for exclusive spot representation.
Executive producer Craig Bishop, who co-owns New York Noise with creative director Rick DePofi, said the decision to add Kremens was based on "a combination of the quality of his spots, the clients, the product, and what Jim contributed. Across the board, what I saw was high-end work."
Before joining the music house, Kremens regularly collaborated on spots with directors Jim Edwards of Barking Weasel Productions, Los Angeles, and Michael Haussman of Serious Pictures, London. Kremens’ credits include sound design and music for Sun Microsystems’ "Light’s Out" via Ingalls Moranville Advertising, Portland, Ore., and Audi’s "Take Control" via DDB Chicago, both directed by Edwards. Kremens also contributed in the same dual capacity for Guinness’ "Enigma" directed by Haussman for Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG, New York. Additionally, Kremens has sound designed and scored Nike’s "Kenya," out of Wieden+ Kennedy, Portland, Ore., and directed by Joe Pytka, of PYTKA, Venice, Calif.
Kremens describes his music as "grand and enigmatic." For the Audi commercial, Kremens had cut up and reassembled a speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. "In the end you couldn’t make out any words, but the passion was still there," he said. Kremens will score spots out of New York Noise as well as his own studio, which is equipped with a ProTools system and an AMEC 80-channel console.
New York Noise’s composing roster also includes Danny Louis, Ed Potokar and Ed Choi. Bishop serves as the shop’s national rep.
