Visual effects/CG house Zoic Studios–which is active in commercials, music videos, features and episodic TV–has expanded beyond its Culver City base of operation. The company has added a 5,000 square foot stage to its resources. Located adjacent to the NOHO Arts District in North Hollywood, the stage facility features a motion control rig with camera, a green screen stage, and a full grip and lighting package.
The North Hollywood site also has an outdoor area for pyrotechnical shoots. Already Zoic has deployed the stage complex for Hewlett Packard and Samsung shoots, as well as for the TV series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Zoic visual effects supervisor Andrew Orloff related, “We have always worked to be a creative partner with clients and adding the stage allows us to do even more effects work for them at a cost that makes it an effective part of the process. Additionally, when we shoot, we can provide quality control for the elements we need for our visual effects sequences, thereby enabling a smoother process.”
Credits for Zoic include commercials for Chevy, SBC, Kia and Namco. The effects studio has also turned out broadcast packages for Jetix and NBA Live. Zoic’s visual effects work has also been in such features as Van Helsing, Day After Tomorrow and Spider-Man 2, as well as in the upcoming Serenity. Zoic’s TV series endeavors over the years have included Buffy the Vampire Slayer, CSI, Angel and Firefly. For the latter, Zoic won a 2003 visual effects Emmy.
