Composer Justin Burnett, who recently wrapped the full score for the Warner Bros. release Dungeons and Dragons, has joined Hollywood-based Musikvergnuegen, the music/sound design house headed by founder/creative director Walter Werzowa.
Already at his new roost, Burnett has worked on a couple of spots, including Titleist’s "Duel" for Arnold Communications, Boston. He and Werzowa teamed to compose and arrange music for the commercial, which was directed by Klaus Obermeyer of bicoastal Flying Tiger Films. Werzowa was also sound designer on the job.
Burnett served for three years as assistant composer to Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer (The Lion King) of Santa Monica-based Media Ventures, which also maintains Element, a commercial music company in Santa Monica. Under Zimmer, Burnett worked on more than a dozen films, including Prince of Egypt, for which he was technical score supervisor, and As Good As It Gets, The Peacemaker, The Fan, The Rock and Broken Arrow, in which he was involved in orchestrations and arrangements. Burnett composed the score for the independent feature Golf Lessons and for New Line Cinema’s Solomon. He also wrote additional music for the films Gladiator, Fight Club and The Road to El Dorado.
Werzowa cited Burnett’s work with Zimmer as career defining. "He [Burnett] was taught by one of the masters in the business, and it shows in the creativity and professionalism he brings to his work. His longform background also adds to our versatility."
Burnett’s composing credits additionally include the TV series Rescue 77, and the German show Cops 2000. He co-composed music for the video game Metal Gear 2, developed for Sony PlayStation 2 and slated for release this year.
Burnett joins a Musikvergnuegen roster that also consists of Werzowa and composers John Luker and Bernhard Locker. The shop’s executive producer is Pat Weaver.
