The Los Angeles Film Critics Association was captivated by Moonlight, bestowing upon writer-director Barry Jenkins’ film a total of four awards-Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography (for James Laxton) and Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali). La La Land was named runner up in three of those categories–Best Picture, Director (Damien Chazelle) and Cinematography (Linus Sandgren). Runner up for Best Supporting Actress was Issey Ogata for Martin Scorsese’s Silence.
La La Land also was runner up in the Editing and Production Design categories. Winning for Best Editing were Bret Granato, Maya Mumma and Ben Sozanski for O.J.: Made In America. Ryu Seong-He won Best Production Design for The Handmaiden.
La La Land did take one category, Best Music Score for Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Music Score runner up was Jackie (Mica Levi).
Adam Driver took Best Actor for Paterson while Isabelle Huppert won Best Actress distinction for two films, Elle and Things To Come. Runners up in those two respective categories were Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea and Rebecca Hall for Christine.
The Best Supporting Actress winner was Liiy Gladstone for Certain Women. Michelle Wiliams was runner up for Manchester by the Sea.
Manchester by the Sea was also runner up for Best Screeenplay (writer-director Kenneth Lonergan), an honor won by Efthymis Filippou and Yorgos Lanthios for The Lobster.
L.A. Film Critics named I Am Not Your Negro the Best Documentary. Runner up was O.J.: Made In America.
