Modus Operandi has joined forces with exec producer Rossi Cannon to launch the multi-disciplinary Mod/Op Films with a directorial roster consisting of 13 Keys, Steven Antin, KRONCK, Rane, David Popescu, Christopher Ferguson, Laurieann Gibson and Jonathan Teplitsky. The seal on the new venture has been broken with a 360 campaign directed by Popescu with edit, design and animation by creative collective 13 Keys via agency Vitro, and a digital campaign for Wild Turkey.
The directors at Mod/Op Films have the ability to leverage their broadcast-quality live-action and tap into Modus Operandi’s digital-focused, strategic creative and technical skillsets (including game capture, html5 programming, animation, native app development, and enterprise-level backend web development) to help realize any creative vision with efficiency and production value. This combination of creative forces is designed to yield successful campaigns for all screens.
The company model was forged when ModOp partner Steve Schofield had a serendipitous meeting with Cannon, involving a conversation about where the advertising business was heading that exposed their shared vision for an optimal offering in today’s environment.
“Mod/Op Films was ultimately concepted as a response to the business challenges facing agency clients in terms of how to best produce a 360 campaign with efficiency and equal quality across all the mobile/digital/social and broadcast tactics,” said Cannon, who formerly served as executive producer/partner at TateUSA and prior to that a sr. exec producer at Form. “Mod/Op Films is designed specifically to crack this code for our clients and provide deep creative resources from live action to digital at its highest potential and for all platforms.”
“With our combined experience and the creative pool of multi-talented directors, Mod/Op Films provides a platform so that clients are able to bring forth a more vivid consumer engagement leveraging the best of broadcast production and digital chops under one roof,” added Schofield.
The Mod/Op Films’ roster has been honored with Cannes Lions, Grammy Awards, Effies, Critics Choice, New Directors Award, for work on campaigns for Coke, Sony, Asics, Biss Bottle, Ford and more. In addition to brand-based campaigns, the directors’ reach includes features and television, among them Tepitzky’s Railway Man starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and an upcoming TV pilot called Scarlett And The Apocalypse written and executive produced by Antin who is currently directing a feature called The Girlfriend.
Directors Teplitzky, Popesu, 13 Keys and Antin were with Cannon at Tate and she brought them over to Mod/Op Films. Directors Ferguson and KRONCK gain their first U.S. representation via Mod/Op. The KRONCK group continues to be repped in Germany by Helliventures Filmproduktion GmbH. Gibson is a noted creative director/choreographer who has diversified into directing with such credits as Keri Hilson’s The Way You Love Me” music video, the Lady Gaga videos “Judas” and “You and I,” and the Emmy-nominated HBO special Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden.
