Spike TV has hit a new high in terms of ratings for the network’s debut of a non-scripted series. Delivering the record viewer tally was “Lip Sync Battle” with 2.2 million viewers last Thursday (4/2). Spike TV is partnering on the new half-hour “Lip Sync Battle” series with Jimmy Fallon and his Eight Million Plus Productions, John Krasinski (“The Office,” “Promised Land,” “It’s Complicated”), Stephen Merchant (“Hello Ladies,” “Extras,” “The Ricky Gervais Show”) and Matador (“Banksy Does New York”). Hosted by two-time Grammy Award winner LL Cool J,, each “Lip Sync Battle” episode will feature celebrities going head to head – lip synching the song of their choice – battling for the coolest bragging rights on the planet.
Last week’s show also scored the highest rating with adults 18-49 (1.3 million) in Spike TV history for a non-scripted series debut. “The record ratings are indicative of the incredible talent and creativity of the producers and participants who delivered in so many ways,” said Kevin Kay, president, Spike. “We are incredibly encouraged by the balanced audience of the premiere as we continue our mission to target a broad viewership.”
This Thursday’s new episode pits actresses Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt against one another in lip sync competition. Here’s a preview clip of Hathaway’s performance of “Wrecking Ball.”
