Costume designer Mary Zophres won the Costume Designer Guild Award for Excellence in Contemporary Film on the basis of La La Land. Meanwhile Renee Ehrlich Kalfus topped the Period Film category for Hidden Figures, and Alexandra Byrne earned Fantasy Film distinction for Doctor Strange.
Also during the Tuesday evening (2/21) gala ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Costume Designer Awards in television went to American Horror Story: Roanoke (Lou Eyrich, Helen Huang) for Outstanding Contemporary TV Series, The Crown (Michele Clapton) for Best Period TV Series, and Game of Thrones (Michele Clapton, April Ferry) for Outstanding Fantasy TV Series.
The Excellence in Short Form Design honor went to Ami Goodheart for Pepsi’s “Momotaro” Episode Four featuring Jude Law.
As previously announced, three-time Academy Award® winning Actress Meryl Streep earned the Distinguished Collaborator Award in recognition of her support of costume design and creative collaborations with costume designers. In addition, legendary costume designer Jeffrey Kurland received this year’s Career Achievement Award for his outstanding work in film and television. Illustrator Lois DeArmond was honored with the Distinguished Service Award and costume designer Ret Turner was posthumously inducted into the Guild’s Hall of Fame.
