89 Editorial, a New York-based creative editorial and design shop, has signed editor Julie Drazen, who had most recently been freelancing. Much of her freelance efforts entailed working with several directors at bicoastal/international @radical.media, including Errol Morris (now with Moxie Pictures, bicoastal and London), Tarsem and Lenard Dorfman. Her @radical endeavors included projects for such clients as Nike, Orange Wireless, Coca-Cola, Polaroid, Amstel Beer, ESPN, Nikon and Motorola.
Drazen’s most recent work was a Smirnoff Vodka spot out of bicoastal Imaginary Forces for J. Walter Thompson, New York. Prior to 2000, Drazen was a staff editor for @radical. In ’00, Drazen directed and cut her first feature film documentary RISE: The Story of Rave Outlaw Disco Donnie (associate produced by @radical).
Drazen joins an 89 roster that includes editors Tim Cahill, Michael Coletta, Jordan Green, Paul Kelly and Ken Rosenberg. Drazen began her professional editing career as an assistant editor at Crew Cuts, New York. She later worked as a freelance cutter for such New York houses as Chad Sipkin Editorial, Ian MacKenzie Editorial (now MacKenzie Cutler), and Ohio Edit.
Upon graduating from Ithaca College in ’92 with a BA in film and photography, Drazen spent a year in Prague, working as writer/photographer for the English language newspaper Prognosis. She also served as the assistant to the creative director of McCann-Erickson, Prague.
