Colorist Jais Thierry Lamaire and his producer/scheduler Julie Airali are departing 525 Studios, Santa Monica, in order to form their own telecine shop, Bobine Video. The new Santa Monica-based venture is scheduled to open its doors on Nov. 6, and will feature a Philips Spirit Datacine and a daVinci 2K color corrector, offering telecine services in standard and hi-def.
Lamaire’s recent credits include spots for Nike, Sony Playstation and Levi’s, as well as music videos featuring such artists as N Sync, Kid Rock, Outkast and JZ. He came aboard 525 last year (SHOOT, 3/19/99), and has teamed with Airali not only there, but at such Santa Monica shops as POP and Encore Video (now both consolidated under the R!OT banner). Lamaire and Airali-who are respectively president/owner and VP/owner of Bobine Video -have worked together since 1996.
Born in France, Lamaire began his career in Paris as a dub operator, and then served in such capacities as editor, cameraman, technical director and, finally, colorist for seven years before moving to the U.S. He made his first major mark stateside at 525 Post Production, Hollywood (now 525 Studios Santa Monica), staying there initially from ’87 to ’90. He later came aboard such Hollywood shops as The Post Group and Post Logic before moving on to POP and Encore, and then returning to 525.
Lamaire has had working relationships with several leading directors over the years. For example, his resume includes Nissan Trucks’ "Fishing," directed by Zack Snyder of bicoastal HSI Productions; and Nike’s "Snowdome," "Blader" and "Johnny," helmed by Michael Bay, who at the time was with bicoastal/international Propaganda Films. (Bay has since left to form his own as-yet-unnamed spot company in tandem with executive producer Scott Gardenhour-SHOOT, 9/22/00.)
