Integrated production company Big Block has signed director Charlie Todd for commercial representation. He was formerly handled by Uber Content for spots and branded fare.
As the founder of the New York comedy collective Improv Everywhere and an Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre veteran, Todd has been creating scenes for over 15 years, making viral hits since the dawn of YouTube, and his channel sports some 1.8 million subscribers and more than 400 million lifetime views. Todd has an affinity for defying convention by disrupting reality and forcing new perspectives through his work, often including the audience as more than simply passive participants.
Todd’s public performances include the Frozen Grand Central, where 200 performers made time stop for five minutes in New York’s Grand Central Terminal and the annual No Pants Subway Ride. This year’s 15th annual ride took place in over 60 cities across the globe, and the New York City edition alone included over 4,000 participants who ventured on and off the subway dressed completely normal minus the pants.
Todd has had tremendous success working with brands, most recently partnering with Target on The Light Switch. Todd’s team of pranksters caught the attention of curious New Yorkers with a mysterious oversized red light switch that turned on over 50,000 Christmas lights, illuminating an entire city park. The resulting video was featured on The Today Show and assorted media outlets.
Todd and Improv Everywhere were the subject of the feature-length documentary We Cause Scenes which premiered at the 2013 SXSW film festival and has enjoyed success on Netflix. The film chronicles Improv Everywhere as they instigate scenes around the world, from their early guerilla-style street performances 15 years ago to the massively complex performances they create today.
Most recently, Todd has created work for brands such as ESPN, BBC America, Disney Parks and Ford.
Todd rounds out the Big Block roster, which also includes directors Michael Rapaport, Paul Trillo, Josh + Vince, The Bozzwicks, Shaun Collings and Marek Glaser.
