The judges' work is done, the Curatorial Committee has weighed in and now the finalists have been unveiled with the release of the shortlist for the 2022 AMP Awards for Music & Sound. Winners will be revealed and celebrated with a live, in-person awards gala set for Tuesday, May 24, at Sony Hall in New York City.
The Los Angeles and New York music and sound design studio Human Worldwide led the shortlist with five finalists, followed by TBWAMedia Arts Lab with four.
Human was shortlisted in the categories of Outstanding Adaptation/Arrangement for its work on Sandy Hook Promise and in the category of Outstanding Sonic Branding or Mnemonic for its work for HubSpot. It scored two shortlist entries in the Best Original Song category, one for Microsoft Xbox and one for Kraft. Its final shortlist entry was in the Best Artist + Brand Collaboration, also for Kraft.
TBWAMedia Arts Lab’s finalists were all for Apple. It was shortlisted in the categories of Outstanding Adaptation/Arrangement, Best Use of a Licensed, Pre-Existing Recording (twice) and in Best Artist + Brand Collaboration.
The AMP Awards finalists were reviewed earlier this month by the competition’s Curatorial Committee, led by AMP Awards Show chair Julia Neumann, chief creative officer of Johannes Leonardo, who will be on hand at the awards ceremony to present the Ryan Barkan Award for Best in Show. (The full shortlist appears below.)
Other companies scoring multiple shortlisted entries were Antfood, Dentsu, Droga5 and Wave Studio, with three each; and Duotone, Heavy Duty Projects, Made Music Studio, Sonic Union, Squeak E. Clean Studio and Yessian with two.
Also represented on the AMP Awards shortlist were entries from BANG Music, Barking Owl, BUTTER Music + Sound, COPILOT Music + Sound, Groove Guild, Light Post Sound, Mophonics, Nettwork Music Group, Racket Club, Score a Score, Swell Music + Sound, Townhouse Worldwide and Zync Music.
Tickets for the 2022 AMP Awards presentation are now on sale. Price is $185 for non-AMP members, $150 for AMP members. The event takes place on Tuesday, May 24 at Sony Hall. Dubbed “the loudest show in the industry,” the presentation will feature live music performances, extensive kibbitzing and a great DJ. Tickets are now on sale and available here.
The Awards presentation will be preceded by a special reception the night before, on Monday, May 23, to honor and celebrate its winners from 2020 and 2021. The event, which will take place at a private venue featuring both indoor and outdoor areas and an imposing view of the Hudson River, is open to winners from both years, curatorial committee members and others close to the awards competition.
