Stuart Gross, an industry vet perhaps best known for being a co-founder of the longstanding, now defunct commercial production house Harmony Pictures, has teamed with former Monkee group member Micky Dolenz to form Independent Entertainment.
The new Los Angeles-based venture will specialize in independent feature filmmaking, primarily smaller budget fare. Gross and Dolenz already have acquired some original material for their initial slate of films. The duo is also searching the festival circuit for up-and-coming directors and projects.
Dolenz cut his film teeth on the TV series The Monkees and went on to produce and direct jobs for the BBC, Paramount and 20th Century FOX. More recently he directed the film Malpractice for Lifetime.
Over the years, Gross has worked with such directors at Rob Lieberman, Chris Menges, Haskell Wexler and Vilmos Zsigmond. Gross’ experience spans film production, media, finance and technology. He also was a founder of Culver City-based interactive TV company Random/Order.
