Editor Ken Stadt has shuttered the New York-based editing company KranMar’s Mystery Editorial (KranMar’s), which he started in 1994, and has launched an editorial boutique called Greene & Grand (G&G). The new company officially opened the doors to its new facility in downtown Manhattan on Jan. 1. The change was all about taking the operation up a notch.
"I guess I reached a plateau in my career," explained Stadt. "While KranMar’s was a financial success, I really longed to be at the helm of a sophisticated, cutting-edge company that could distinguish itself as a major player in the industry. Rather than try to retool KranMar’s, I decided to take a leap of faith and form a brand-new entity."
All of the former staff at KranMar’s—editor Pat Muia, Flame artist Cameron Campbell and production/office manager Pete Mieser—has joined G&G. Additional hires include editor Kris Palestrini, who comes over from The Blue Rock Editing Company, New York, where he has worked for the past five years, most recently as editor. (His father is Blue Rock CEO John Palestrini.) Graphic designer Tim Joyce has also joined G&G, as design director. Joyce will continue, as well, to work on print projects through the New York-based graphic design company he founded: Rock Paper Scissors (no relation to the Los Angeles-based editorial house of the same name).
Stadt expects that staff, including support personnel and assistants, will number around 15. He is currently looking to hire an in-house producer, and has plans in place to take on an additional editor.
Located in Soho, Manhattan, at the intersection of Greene and Grand streets, the new boutique will provide offline, online, Flame, DVD and 3-D services. G&G will have five offline suites equipped with Avid Media Composers (version 10.1) with 3-D capable of uncompressed resolution. It will have an online room, as well, featuring Discreet Logic Edit and Discreet Logic Combustion. The graphics suite will be equipped with a Discreet Logic Flame (version 7.0) and 3-D Studio Max.
The facility is also pre-wired for hi-def, an area G&G intends to explore in the future. Additionally, G&G is equipped with a Sonic Solutions DVD Creator System, allowing for the authoring and mastering of DVDs.
