Fueld Films, an Austin-based shop known for producing national caliber commercials in regional markets, has expanded its creative resources with a dedicated lineup of directing talent from various markets, including Los Angeles and Toronto. Putting together a directorial roster represents an evolution of the company’s business model which has seen Fueld’s producing team source directors, editors, vetted crew and post talent to support the execution of each project. Now dedicated directing talent is part of the Fueld creative network which has also grown to include an office in Denver. The newly signed directors are Annie Gunn, Nate Balli, Doug Chamberlain, Kevin Kerwin, Nic Iyer, David Quinn and Jake Kovnat.
“As our collaborations multiplied it became clear that a permanent relationship with handpicked directors was the next step,” explained Fueld partner/DP Brady Anderton. “These directors–varied in style and location–provide creative depth and reach. Equally important, they embrace the creative, collective spirit upon which Fueld was built.”
The featured directors have worked both nationally and internationally. Collectively, they cover all genres and project types from national television campaigns to integrated digital work.
Fueld handles U.S. representation for directors Quinn, Kovnet, Chamberlain and Balli. Iyer too is handled in the U.S. market by Fueld but he can also take on work via production company ACNE. Gunn is repped in the U.S. by Fueld while also available for assignments nationally through Spy Films, Toronto and L.A. Kerwin, who’s repped nationwide by Fueld, continues to maintain his Authentic Films in Ohio through which he can also take on select jobs.
Working in close collaboration with DP partner Peter Simonite, Gunn brings a mix of imagery and emotion to her work which spans such clients as Telus, Fogo De Chao, and Shaw. She has also helmed a variety of music videos.
Cannes 2014 Young Director of the Year for North America, Quinn has turned out jobs for United Way, Paralympics, Park University, Urban Planet, Ontario Science Center, and Manwich.
Kovnat spans such disciplines as documentary, narrative and hidden camera execution. He’s told brand stories for HP, Weber, Taco Bell, Bio Steel, Tim Hortons, WestJet Airlines, Ronald McDonald House, Canadian Tire and Tetley Tea, among others.
Balli champions the conceptualization and design of creative content through motion graphics, video, and sound. He’s delivered for NorthFace, Range Rover, ESPN, Under Armour, Pepsi, National Geographic, Red Bull, Outside Magazine, and Livestrong. He was a winner of the Mountain Dew 2014-2015 commercial competition, and received the Grand Prize at Canon’s Project Imagination Film Festival.
Chamberlain pairs his eye for art direction with an ability to paint with light for clients Verizon, Kellogg, University of Colorado Hospital, Arizona Department of Health, Andy Awards, and Republic Services.
Kerwin’s endeavors range from comedy to documentary. He has helmed projects for Huggies, NASCAR, Children’s Hospital, and Vanderbilt University Medical. His writing talent has been recognized with a Milos Forman Screenwriting Award, the Nickelodeon Screenwriting Award, and the Austin Film Festival’s Best Comedy Screenplay. Kerwin gained inclusion into SHOOT’s 2010 New Directors Showcase.
A Cannes Young Guns finalist, Iyer’s clients include Snickers, Sprite, NASCAR, and ACE. He has recently expanded his work into the realm of shooting celebrities.
In addition to the new director roster, Fueld has expanded its network of postproduction collaborators to include Utopic in Chicago, Nocturnal in Portland and Salt Lake City, Spillt in Denver, BLK MKT in Austin, as well as Crawford Media in Atlanta. The result is a true 360 creative resource for clients. “Making new connections with like-minded partners has always been second nature to us, and the process has grown organically,” said Fueld EP Summer Finley. “We can use their facilities and staff, but also have the freedom to bring in specialists, a certain editor who excels at comedy, for example.”
