"You Were Never Really Here" picks up 2 honors
Director Yorgos Lanthimos' The Favourite has won five British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), topping the first round of the competition with honors for Best Casting (Dixie Chassay), Cinematography (Robbie Ryan), Costume Design (Sandy Powell), Make-Up and Hair Design (Nadia Stacey) and Production Design (Fiona Crombie). Results were unveiled on Thursday (11/15) in London.
You Were Never Really Here copped two BIFA categories–Best Music (Jonny Greenwood) and Best Sound (Paul Davies).
Nick Fenton, Julian Hart and Chris Gill won the award for Best Editing on the strength of American Animals.
Early Man VFX supervisor Howard Jones was the winner of Best Effects.
To better recognize the wealth of exceptional talent working on British independent films, BIFA introduced these nine award categories in 2017. The nominations and winners have been chosen by BIFA voters over the course of three rounds of viewing, discussion and voting.
As previously announced, Felicity Jones will receive this year’s Variety Award. The Variety Award recognizes a director, actor, writer or producer who has made a global impact and helped focus the international spotlight on the UK. The recipient of the 2018 Richard Harris Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Actor to British Film will be announced next week. Winners in the remaining categories–including Best British Independent Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay–will be unveiled at the ceremony on Sunday, December 2, at Old Billingsgate, which will mark the 21st anniversary of the Awards.
