Editor Elaine Volpe, formerly of New York-based Progressive Image Group (P.I.G.), has joined The Blue Rock Editing Company, New York.
Volpe initially planned to be part of a P.I.G. contingent that was going to launch a new venture, Siberia, but when that didn’t work out (see separate story, this page, on Ghost Light and The Well), she began to explore her options. Volpe looked into several prospective opportunities, but was most impressed with Blue Rock, where she is currently in the process of looking for an assistant editor.
"Blue Rock has so many things that I was kind of expecting other companies to have but they didn’t; it just felt right which is so wonderful and refreshing," she said, citing the shop’s technical resources, creative working environment and depth of talent. The latter, she said is reflected in part by Blue Rock’s Raw Talent operation, which features up-and-coming editors.
Volpe, who has a BA in film and television production at The Jersey City State College, worked at MS Editorial, (which was renamed Big Picture Editorial and then Cabana), from ’87 to ’96. She moved up the ranks from assistant to associate editor and then full-fledged editor. Volpe started working at P.I.G. in October ’96.
Spot credits through P.I.G. included "Beach," "Classroom" and "Haiku" for PepsiOne via BBDO New York; "Kid/Motorcycle" and "Kid/Beach" for Tagamet via Jordan McGrath Case & Partners/Euro RSCG, New York; and "Susie" for Burger King" via Uniworld Group, New York. She also cut the lauded Cease Fire PSA entitled "Toy Gun" for BBDO New York.
"Elaine’s reel is very strong on character, storytelling and comedy which adds to our editorial roster," assessed Blue Rock president Ethel Rubinstein. Meanwhile, Blue Rock CEO John Palestrini cited Volpe’s "energy and freshness" as an ideal match for the company.
Volpe joins a staff of Avid editors that includes: Steve Bodner, Michael Charles, David Cornman, Lenny Friedman, Maciek Godlewski, Ilene Hochman, Reb Kessler, Sewra Kidane, Peter Klaus, Laura Milstein, Richard Morse, Brent Prince, Oren Sarch, Nico Sheers, Chip Smith, Greg Suskin, Oliver Wicki and bicoastal cutters Sylvette Artinian and Sloane Klevin. This lineup is repped by Rubinstein and Blue Rock’s head of sales Corey Fenstemacher.
